This month the ‘Entertainment Resort’ Grand Oasis Cancun hosts the 3rd edition of its ElectroOasis Latin Beach festival, bringing some of the biggest names in Electro Latino music to our Beach Club and Arena. This year’s festival runs from 24 June to 22 July with performances taking place every Saturday for both guests and non-guests.

Juan Magan – Saturday 24 June

The festivities begin with Spanish artist Juan Magan, one of the most internationally acclaimed singers, remixers, DJs and producers in all of Latin electronic music and a pioneer of the electro Latino genre. Magan has collaborated with international artists such as Shakira, Nelly Furtado and Pitbull, as well as Enrique Iglesias on a track that features another ElectroOasis performer Yandel.

Noche y de Día

De La Ghetto – Saturday 1 July

Born in Manhattan and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Rafael Castillo, better known by his stage name De La Ghetto began his music career in 2004 forming a duo with another New York City-born artist Arcangel, with the pair gaining much attention with their 2005 song Ven Pégate. In 2007 De La Ghetto embarked on a solo career and has since featured on regaetton hits such as Siente El Boom and La Reunión de los Vaqueros that also features fellow ElectroOasis artists Yandel and Tego Calderon.

La Reunión de los Vaqueros

Yandel – Saturday 8 July

Puerto Rican reggaeton artist and producer Yandel takes to the Oasis Arena stage on 8 July. Yandel began performing in 1998 with an old school friend forming the duo Wisin & Yandel. The pair won a Grammy for Best Latin Urban Album in 2009 and 2 Latin Grammy Awards for Best Urban Album and Best Urban Song and were also coaches on singing contest The Voice Mexico in 2013. Tego Calderon – Saturday 22 July

Puerto Rican rapper Tego Calderon ends this year’s festival on Saturday 22 July. In the summer of 2005, Calderon signed a deal between Atlantic Records and his own independent label, Jiggiri Records, making him the first reggaeton artist to have a deal with a major record company. One of the pioneers of the genre, Calderon has helped steer his country’s dominant youth culture out of Puerto Rico and Latino neighbourhoods, and into the American stream of pop consciousness. The rapper has also featured in three of the Fast & Furious movies.

Oasis Jazz U Festival

This month the Grand Oasis Cancun plays host to the 6th edition of the Oasis Jazz U festival and it’s another fantastic line-up of international artists. This edition focuses on smooth jazz and runs from the 18th to the 27th May.

Hiram Gomez and The Groove Machine Band – Kinky Night Club (Thursday 18th May)

Our good friends Hiram Gomez and his Groove Machine Band will return once again to perform at this festival, having performed in both 2015 and 2016 editions. They will be opening the festival on Thursday 18th May in the intimate surroundings of the resorts Kinky Night Club, just next door to our Arena. Some of you may have seen Hiram and his band before as they often play in our resorts.

Marcus Miller – Oasis Arena (Saturday 20th May)

We welcome American jazz artist, producer and multi-instrumentalist Marcus Miller to the Oasis Arena on Saturday 20th May. The two-time Grammy award winner has worked with such luminary artists as Miles Davis, Frank Sinatra and Aretha Franklin and was also part of the Saturday Night Live band. The New York native, best known for playing the bass guitar, brings his funky sound to the Arena stage for what is expected to be a great night of jazz.

Performing before Marcus is Cuban artist and Cancun resident Daniel Peñalver. Daniel is no stranger to the Oasis Arena having performed saxophone with his Latin Project at last year’s Cancun International Music Festival of which he was also artistic director.

Esperanza Spalding – Oasis Arena (Saturday 27th May)

American jazz bassist and singer Esperanza Spalding graces the Arena stage on Saturday 27th May. Raised in Portland, Oregon, Spalding was a child prodigy playing violin in the Chamber Music Society of Oregon at five years old. Now 32, she has released five solo albums and has won four Grammy awards including Best New Artist in 2011. In her performances she alternates between double bass and electric bass and sings in English, Spanish and Portuguese.

Also playing on the night are Troker, a jazz and psychedelic six-piece hailing from Guadalajara, Mexico. They mix traditional jazz sounds with rock and even turntabling to create their signature modern style.

The festival is for a good cause as part of the proceeds goes towards the Oasis Foundation, our charity that helps support many local goodwill organizations. Ticket prices are as follows:

  • Oasis guests: VIP Section $700 pesos (includes snacks and drinks)
  • Oasis guests: General Section $400 pesos
